WW2 Coldstream Guards POW Grouping.

A paperwork grouping to 2660871 Guardsman Bonny David Arthur Burton LASHLEY. Lashley, originally from Smethwick joined the Guards in 1940 and was a member of the war raised 5th battalion. He was probably taken prisoner in Italy in 1943. The grouping includes his paybook, release book , reserve transfer, wedding photograph, various letters and OCA membership cards. Most interestingly the grouping includes the YMCA ' Wartime Log ' for British prisoners which he shared with Lt Eric D.Collie. The Log has various notes including personnel lists and addresses, lists of films, Hut lists, diary of theatrical productions including cast lists and content lists of the various Red Cross parcels. It appears that the Log was maintained in both Oflag VIIIA and then Oflag 79 at Brunswick. The diary describes conditions in Oflag 79 in August 1944 and entries go on intermittently through 1945 until liberation by C Squadron of the 125th Cavalry of the US 30 Division. Log is quite tired but clearly legible and uncommon.
