Beloved and banned, Crown and Anchor was a traditional English game, originating from the 18th century when it was a popular gambling game in the royal navy and fishing fleets and was played extensively by troops in WW1 and after. This example with a board of painted canvas accompanied by three dice. In good, used condition with some staining and wear across the fold lines.  read more

COLLECTION OF PAPER ‘BRING BACK’ SOUVENIRS FROM HOLLAND. DROP LEAFLET ETC ETC

All from a recent acquisition. There were 7 items of war-time paperwork, all bought back by a British soldier from Holland/France. The most interesting is the August 16 1940 edition of the Daily Mirror! However, the items consist of a ‘drop leaflet’ depicting Himmler inspecting his ‘last reserves’ which consist of women, children and old people. A lovely original Luftwaffe parachutist award badge by G.H.OSANG DRESDEN. Colour wash to the eagle still mostly present especially in the background. High points rubbed to base metal colour. Swastika has all of the gilt wash. Background wreath of laurel and oakleaves. Reverse pin and catch are perfect.
