FAA Burma Star, Ephemera and Photograph Album Grouping.
Fleet Air Arm Burma star grouping to A/PO. Donald Heyes Driver and Air Mechanic with 1830 Sqn. on HMS Illustrious. Grouping consists of 39-45, Africa, Burma bar Pacific Stars, Defence and War Medals, mounted as worn, paperwork including Driver's Certificate of Service, 30+ loose photographs and a Photograph album contains approx 90 views all annotated. Loose photos, some cut from another album ( ? ) show views of Corsairs, Hellcats and Avengers with crashes, landings and take-offs, again some annotated and various naval and ship photographs. Album contains usual tourist views of India, Egypt etc. and Swordfish operating from HMS Formidable, HMS Barham and Warspite operating in the Mediterranean and various views of Swordfish, Albacores and Brewster.
1830 NAS was formed in 1943 and joined HMS Illustrious later that year operating in the Bay of Bengal
with strikes against Sabang and Palembang. 1945 saw illustrious join the British Pacific Fleet in operations in the China Sea including Okinawa. She suffered a near miss from a Kamikaze and then returned to the UK where 1830 NAS was disbanded and P/O Driver transferred to a shore establishment before being demobbed in early 1946.
Interesting grouping with avenue for further research.
