1882 ' Wallace Patent ' Entrenching Implement Mk II manufactured by Edw. Lucas & Sons, Sheffield in 1886. On issue from 1882 on a scale of one to every two men, this pattern was short lived and was abolished in 1892 but continued on issue to volunteer units into the early twentieth century. This is a nice , early version of the bar to the Iron Cross 2nd class. Awarded in the Third Reich period to those already awarded an Iron Cross in WW1, but awarded it again in WW2. An early version with shorter wings and 4 pins to the reverse. Is mounted on an original piece of the slightly thinner 'dress' iron cross ribbon. This is an iron cross in wonderful condition. Has nearly all the silver plated 'frosting' on the surfaces, with no damage and dark patina where the silver has become exposed to the atmosphere.
