WW1 Printed Memorial - Gallipoli Casualty - Worcesters.
Unusual, printed memorial for 13788 Pte.George Cook, 9th Btn Worcestershire Regiment. Cook, who was 17 at the time of his death, was killed on 10/08/1915 during the Battle of Sari Bair. He was probably one of those killed repelling Turkish counter attacks in and around Hill Q around dawn on the morning of the 10th August. Victorian, Lee Metford, 1888 Mark II bayonet manufactured for the British .303 calibre Enfield, Lee Metford rifle. Clearly marked with Victorian crown and ' 3 and 00 ' indicating manufacture in March 1900 with a broad arrow and ' EFD ' indicating Enfield with various inspection marks to blade and grip. 1941 dated o/r's F.S. cap for a member of the Royal West Kent Regiment. Size 6 7/8 manufactured by J.Collett Ltd with a RWK white metal cap badge. This example recently recovered from a loft and is accordingly ' salty ', clear evidence of the ' Brylcreem Boy ' owner with staining to the interior and the old soldiers' trick of keeping the crown together by use of a safety pin.
