WW1 British Private Purchase Helmet.

WW1 British private purchase helmet very similar to the pattern bought by the Portuguese for their troops on the Western Front. Made of mild steel they were later banned by the War Office because of their tendency to fragment when hit causing greater chances of serious wounding to the wearer.
This example in good, used condition displaying a thick coat of khaki paint. Blanket liner with leather headband with cork cushioning between headband and helmet with the flimsy head strap in undamaged condition.
