FR693 3rd Patt F.S.Knife - Royal Marines.

An excellent unissued 3rd Patt F.S.Knife , probably by Wilkinsons. Casting marked ' 2 ' to handle with ' FR693 ' impressed alongside, with broad arrow ' 12 ' inspection mark to bottom of handle. Machine ground blade in unsharpened condition with all cross graining, slight rubbing to handle highlights. Sheath in tight condition with evidence of original dressing and lacquer, impressed ' FR271 ' to reverse, slight storage verdigris.
These knives have an interesting story and I refer you to the excellent work by Ron Flook on the FS knife for the full story. These original wartime knives were put into stock and reinventoried by the Admiralty for eventual use by the Royal Marines, they have subsequently been disposed from stores, hence their condition. Excellent condition.
