WW1 Shrapnel Damaged Field Service Pocket Book.
1916 ed. Field Service Pocket Book 1914, this example notable by the shrapnel damage with a shrapnel ball still embedded in it's pages. Carried by officers on active service, it's pages and fold-out plates acted as a comprehensive aide-memoire covering subjects as diverse as demolitions, courts martials, first aid, bridging, knots , latrines, etc. Unfortunately there is no indication of it's previous owner but still a powerful and poignant reminder of the risks of the trenches.
