MOST UNUSUAL RUSSIAN WW2 MEDICAL AWARD BADGE.

I hardly ever come across Russian medals or badges. This was with another auction item but is actually very interesting. It's listed in "Red Army Uniforms of World War II" as the "Ready for the Medical Defense of the USSR" badge. Instituted in the USSR in 1934 and was worn and awarded up until 1941. Consists of an enamel red star with hammer and sickle with screw-back fixing. This is also maker marked. The enamel RedCross badge is suspended by 2 chains below. There are period pictures of this being worn (mainly by women) and apparently is was tacked onto the uniform with thread to stop the chains catching and breaking. No damage.
