WW2 Scrapbook Grouping - Bodyguard and Aide to Field Marshal Maitland Wilson.
Highly interesting scrapbook and paperwork grouping to the bodyguard and aide to Field Marshal Henry ' Jumbo ' Maitland Wilson. 6970534 Sgt. Fred TRAYLER of the 9th Batt the Rifle Brigade became the bodyguard and aide to FM.Wilson in 1941 heading to Greece in the same year and then continued to the end of the War alongside the Field Marshal. Trayler's scrapbook is a fascinating window into his wartime experience and includes all of his military passes including as part of the British delegation to Yalta and as a member of the Combined Chiefs of Staff in Washington. Numerous photographs of FM Maitland Wilson and of Trayler and his contemporaries. Most interesting are the numerous signed testimonials from personalties from FM Alexander to Douglas Fairbanks and Marshall Tito ! Also included is stationery from Downing St and the office of the Prime Minister and a cigar label, all forwarded to Trayler from Churchill. Also included is a personal letter from the colourful Countess of Ranfurly who worked with SOE and as p.a. to Maitland Wilson.
Trayler has attached his bullion Rifle Brigade rank insignia to the inside cover and his release book, transfer certificate and paybook accompany the grouping. The paybook has one of the more extensively filled in ' Services at Home or Abroad ' section and a letter indicates the award of a Mentioned-in-Despatches, gazetted in Feb.1945.
Fascinating grouping that would reward further research.
