Grouping to 3136725 Sgt.William Augustus Willmott Royal Scots Fusilers. Grouping consists of insignia, medals, pay and release books, souvenirs, photos and most interestingly a 1944 diary.
Willmott clearly served with the 1st Batt who participated in the Battle of Madagascar in 1942 where a newspaper and money were retained as souvenirs. He then transferred to India becoming part of 36 Div fighting the Japanese. His diary for the period, although difficult to decipher has numerous entries detailing the action involved in the relief of the Admin Box and the crossing of the Irrawady. He details patrols, ' digging in ', rations, ' Sgt. Graham killed ( 3126628 Sgt.James Graham 38 ), ' attack successful on 551 ' ' arrived Admin Box ', numerous attacks, RAP visit as well as a record of every letter received and written.
Original awards included in their box of issue addressed to a location in Willesden along with a bar and a pair of XIV Army badges and a Sgt. stripe. A pair of Japanese rank collar boards were also retained as a souvenir. Some pictures and a clipping show Willmott in service with the condition of the Indian issue paybook showing how hard this service was.
What sets this grouping apart from many others is the presence of a contemporary diary and the detailing of the battles of the ' Forgotten Army ' in Burma in 1944.
