WW1 West Yorks 1914 Casualty Dog Tag Grouping.

Aluminium dog tag to 9988 Pte.B.W.Townrow West Yorks Regt. Dog tag pinned on original sympathy note with facsimile Kitchener signature with later notation probably by a member of the family. Accompanied by a British War Medal receipt and a West Yorks embossed envelope.
Pte. Bertie Townrow was a very early casualty killed on 20/09/14 during an incident where ' A ' and ' B ' Companies of 1st Battalion West Yorks were apparently lured out of their trenches under a white flag where upon they were either killed or captured. This occurred during the Battle of the Aisne in positions near the Chemin des Dames. Pte.Townrow is commemorated on La Ferte-Sous-Jouarre Memorial.Accompanied by a small amount of research.
