WW2 Japanese Helmet Cover.

WW2 economy Japanese helmet cover. Helmet covers were on widespread issue in the Army in an effort to reduce reflections and to enhance camouflage effect. This example has been constructed from canvas with an applied yellow felt star to the front, the multi-piece construction typical to all patterns of the cover. Army receipt markings with size and date stamped to the interior. The rough edge of the canvas has been turned over to form a pocket for the now missing drawstring with a lack of reinforcement to the edge. Clear evidence of wear with bleached and marked exterior with rust marks to interior conforming to the position of the rim of the helmet and evidence of having been wet and the start of contemporary mould growth. Good, worn example of a scarce item.
