Japanese One Thousand Stitch belt.

Cotton Japanese Senninbari or one thousand stitch belt. The belt was worn around the waist under the shirt or uniform as a good luck charm. The symbolic 1000 stitches are hand-stitched with some being circled in ink. The belt is lined with wool and bears clear evidence of having been worn. To one side is an enclosed pocket which would have probably contained temple offerings or good luck symbols onto which a separate printed japanese flag has been applied. To the side are some stitched characters, probably the name of the original owner. Good, heavily used condition with all ties intact.
