WW2 THIRD REICH "Schiffsstammabteilung’’ NAVAL CAP TALLY.

A more unusual ‘specialist ‘ naval ratings cap tally for ‘1 Schiffsstammabteilung Der Nordsee1’. A really nice full length tally in gold thread which has toned down with age. This tally roughly translates as follows:- A 'Schiffsstammabteilung' was a ship cadre unit [like a shore based headquarters that also included some specialist personnel like signals testing commands and other inspectorates]. This was a battalion sized unit and Naval Stations Baltic [Ostsee] and North Sea [Nordsee] each had two of these, so your cap tally is from the first 'battalion' of Naval Station North Sea. A nice period tally which was dropped as soon as the war started.
