A GREAT WW1 GERMAN SOUVENIR 'TRINKET BOX' 1916.

Made of a thick glass base, with a metal hinged lid. This little box or case is approximately 8"x6" and 4" high. The beautifully crafted lid is in steel with a 'wavy' effect to the surface background. There is a flower embossed into each corner. The centre design is a beautifully embossed Imperial German Iron Cross 1st Class 1914. Below the cross are the dates 1914-1915-1916. This is not trench are, but has been commercially made. Along the rear hinge is stamped 'stahl' (steel) and then beside it in a circular stamp 'KRIEGS METALL' (war metal). So if this was made from steel salvage from the war, or steel from the time, I am not sure. However, a great period piece and a nice display item. Perhaps you could story your Iron Cross collection inside? (there is one pictured inside just to show a size comparison, is not included!)
