Northumberland Hussars Officers' Cap.

A good example of a cap worn by an officer of the Northumberland Hussars. Kings crown silvered Northumberland Hussars badge with similarly made buttons befitting of a Yeomanry regiment. Serge body with lining and full leather headband and complete liner protector under which the manufacturer's details of Herbert Johnson of New Bond St can be made out. Metal initial plates ' J.H.N.P. ' have been attached to the headband with further evidence of the original owner being the name ' Porter ' inked to the reverse of the headband. In excellent, clean, moth free condition with some light staining to the top of the cap.
During the Second World War the Northumberland Hussars transferred to the Royal Artillery as a three-battery anti-tank regiment fighting in the Desert, Mediterranean and Europe with 50th Div armed variously with M10s , 6 and 17Pdr A/T Guns. They reverted to their traditional role as cavalry operating tanks post war.
