' Apostle ' bandoleer style ammunition pouch.

Unusual mid-19th century ' apostle ' style ammunition pouch probably of middle eastern origin although similar Indian examples are known. Consisting of a well made leather bandoleer containing 7 turned wooden containers with spouts, these spouts are plugged with material with leather lanyards ( some now detached ). These wooden containers would have contained pre-made charges of black powder to allow for rapid loading of the muzzle loaders then in use. The reverse of the pouch has a sleeve attached to allow for use on a belt or bandoleer. Good, used condition and unusual.
