Seitengewehr 1914 ( Gottscho ) Bayonet.

An example of the uncommon S1914 ( Gottscho ) pattern bayonet. Often described as machine gunners' bayonets there is no evidence to support this. Designed by Dr.Lucian Gottscho as infantry bayonets for the Bavarian and Wurttemberg armies there is evidence of a small production run of a maximum of 27,000 units including saw back versions making this a scarce bayonet.
This example in good condition with the distinctive grips in undamaged condition other than bruising, marks etc. The ricasso carries the mark of Gottscho, a stylised ' GR ' in a lightbulb shaped cartouche with the initials ' BI ' alongside with an inspection mark to the top of the blade. Full length blade in good, clean condition contained in a scabbard with approx 60% of it's original paint. A good, clean example of a scarce bayonet.
