WW1 Imperial German Seitengewehr S98/05 Bayonet. Rare leather scabbard type.

Rescued by my good contact in Taunton for a shop nearby, this is a classic WW1 German 'Butcher' bayonet and is made by JA Henkels Zwillingwerk Solingen. HAs the 'twins' logo. Henkels are still in business today and have made weapons/steel etc over over 100 years. This is an earlier S98/05 type as it has the leather scabbard with steel top and bottom fittings. This was changed to an all steel scabbard for practical purposes. Scabbard is in very good condition with no bends or damage. Bayont itself is in good order for 100years old. Good wood grips with no damage. Blade is unsharpened, has no nicks or damage and is bright steel. There are the off finger smudge etc., but NO pitting or corrosion. Blade has armoury and issue stamps on both spines. A good example!
