WW1 Imperial German S 98/05 Seitengewehr 'sawback' bayonet by MAUSER.

A rare example of the Imperial German Seitengewehr S 98/05 bayonet with saw-back upper edge. This consisted of 29 double sawback teeth 10.3" along the spine of the blade. This one is marked on the blade riccasso WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER A.G. OBERNDORF a.N. This marking is also repeated on the scabbard where it is stamped in smaller letters. Bayonet has good blued surfaces to the hilt and the scabbard. It remains untouched and uncleaned. Blade is in very good order with a bright finish throughout. Top of spine is stamped with crown and armoury markings along with '17' for the year of manufacture 1917. The Prussian War Ministry ordered the removal of all sawbacks from these bayonets in 1918 and were re-issed with them ground off. A very good example of this bayonet, untouched and un-messed with for the past 100 years!
