WW1 Officer's Brodie Pattern Helmet - Machine Gun Company.

WW1 rimless Brodie pattern helmet with an officer's private pattern liner and unit markings to front and rear. Shell stamped to the reverse ' D/O 43 ' indicating manufacture by J. Dixon & Sons Ltd of Sheffield from plate supplied by S. Osborne & Co Ltd of Sheffield, batch number 43. An officer's pattern, private purchase liner has replaced the Brodie pattern liner. The outer shell seems to have had three individual coats of paint but leaving two yellow ' X ' s to front and rear. Although there are a number of units that used this symbol the specific dimensions of the ' X ' are those set down for 167 Machine Gun Company.
The liner, although substantially intact, has suffered a failure of stitching for approx 50% of the headband and is also missing most of it's adjustment strings. The leather strap is missing although both retainers remain. The shell has one significant impact dent with a deformation of the rim in close proximity with approx. 50%+ of the shell covered by one or more of various coats of paint. Whilst not in excellent condition, it still remains as an example of a unit identified officer's helmet.
