EARLY NICKLE 2nd Pattn. FS KNIFE - CHEQUERED GRIP.

A good example of what seems to be a Wilkinson FS knife (not marked). Blade is a modified 1st Pattn type which they used on the early 2nd. knives. Riccasso has been factory shortened and ground down leaving the little 'triangle' at the top near the crossguard. An almost identical example of this is shown in the FS knife book. Heavily nickel plated grip etch which has the machine chequered finish. Crossguard is stamped with WD arrow and numbers '58' (could be 56) Blade is clean and tidy but has seen use and tip is a little blunt. Scabbard is in good order. Been modified a little at the top to accommodate the ball pommel. Nothing remains of the elasticated strap. Leather is all very supple. Scabbard body is brown and remains of leg tabs are there. Bottom scabbard chape is a 1st Pattn type and is affixed by a staple. Overall a very decent example of early 2nd Pattn.
