A poignant grouping of 39/45 Star, Aircrew Europe and War Medal to 1163110 Sgt.Robert John Cockshott aged 22 from Derby. Cockshott was part of the crew of StirlingIII BF483 OJ:C of 149 Sqn. that was reported missing on a mission to Cologne on 28/29/06/1943. The aircraft appears to have been shot down by Lt. Werner Hopf II./NJG5. North Sea, 25 km. W. Schowen 4.200 m. 02.47. None of the crew survived and are commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial. Accompanying the boxed medals, named condolence and packing slips is the poignant telegram to Cockshott's wife informing her of his missing status. Emotive grouping.
