1914 British Diary - East Africa Campaign.

Uncommon diary of an officer involved in the opening of the campaign in East Africa where von Lettow-Vorbeck pushed his forces into British East Africa. The diary belongs to James Mailand Yorke Trotter who was in Uganda working with the Dept.of Land and Surveys and assumed his Territorial position as a second lieutenant on the outbreak of war. The diaries tell of initial training and then his involvement in various skirmishes with the German Askaris and then the clashes on the borders of what are now Tanzania and Kenya. He writes of burying Lt.E.G.M.Thornycroft of the K.A.R. after the battle of Kisii in September 1914 and the disposal of the German dead.
Interesting snapshot of this campaign accompanied by an earlier, 1913 diary and an officer's protection certificate.
Trotter survived the War, having gone on to serve in France and returned to Uganda and married. He went on to serve in Nigeria and is believed to have returned to the UK.
Accompanied by a small amount of research but would reward further detailed research.
