WW2 IRON CROSS 1st CLASS - SCREWBACK, NEAR MINT.
This is an iron cross in wonderful condition. Has nearly all the silver plated 'frosting' on the surfaces, with no damage and dark patina where the silver has become exposed to the atmosphere. Steel, black painted centre is perfect and in mint condition. This has the alternative method of fixing to a jacket, a screwback fitting. The reverse is again in near mint condition, I doubt if this has been issued or worn. On the lower arm of the cross, is deeply stamped the maker of 'L/18'. This is an uncommon maker and I had to look it up. An identical cross is shown as an example of the Wehrmacht Awards Iron Cross page. This maker is D.H. Mayer's, Hofkunstprageanstalt, Pforzheim. Superb example.
