WW1 Battye Bomb.

1914/15 extemporised grenade so-called Battye or Bethune bomb. This cast iron, ammonal filled grenade was designed by Capt.B.C.Battye RE and manufactured at the First Army Workshops. Rough cast and grooved on the surface to aid fragmentation they were closed with a wooden plug and detonated by a short length of safety fuze and a Nobel igniter.
This example is in solid condition with original wooden plug and the remains of the safety fuze.
