WW1 Royal Naval Memorial Plaque - 2nd Battle of the Dover Strait.

Interesting Memorial Plaque to a casualty on board HMS Broke and the 2nd Battle of the Dover Strait 1917. J/24972 Able Seaman Christopher Frank Samways was a member of the crew of the Faulkner class destroyer HMS Broke. A veteran of Jutland HMS Broke was on patrol with HMS Swift and engaged six German torpedo boats that had bombarded Dover on 21/04/1917. Broke rammed SMS G42 and the two ships locked together whereupon there was close quarters, hand-to-hand fighting as the German sailors attempted to board the ship. Broke, heavily damaged broke free, G42 sunk. It is assumed that Samways was a casualty of the close quarter fighting. Unusual with CWGC details and some research.
