WW2 German Fallschirmjager M38 Camouflage Helmet.
Mid WW2 M38 Fallschirmjager Camouflage Helmet. 71cm shell by ET ( Eisenhuttenwerke, Thale ), clearly marked to rim as is the production lot number 5073 with a size 59 liner by Heisler, Berlin. Black padding material as opposed to the tan colour found on early specimens with size and manufacturing details printed to leather liner. Liner showing signs of use with staining and darkening but no apparent application of leather products. Chinstrap intact apart from where the buckle was joined which has been cut ( buckle still present ), not unusual when liberating souvenirs. Some cracking and evidence of contemporary repairs/strengthening.
Vented spanner bolts retaining the second pattern liner with a two tone painted camouflage covering approx. 60% + of the shell. The helmet appears to have been tan initially and then a green brush effect dragged over the surface, some paint to interior rim . Where the paint is missing the surface has taken on a rust coloured patina.
