Boer War Chocolate Tin with Contents.
Based on a design submitted by Frys, Queen Victoria sanctioned a gift of chocolate to the troops in South Africa. Distribution to the troops was made between the middle of January and the end of February 1900 having been shipped to South Africa in crates of 50. The original order was for 90,000, subsequently increased to 120, 000 to be distributed to NCO's and O/Rs only. This example with contents made by Cadbury is contained in a tin : 81mm x 158mm x 22mm which is smaller than those provided by Rowntrees and by Fry's Chocolate. In generally, clean condition with wrapping present to chocolate which is cracked and deformed but still present.
