WW1 HMS Royal Oak ephemera grouping.
A large and interesting grouping of photographs, documents and letters to P.O. James Hesketh a hostilities only, signaller aboard the Revenge class battleship HMS Royal Oak. Joining the ship in 1916, James was present at Jutland, something mentioned in a letter from a friend. Grouping includes some fine studies of the Royal Oak including the flying of aircraft from the aft-turret, firing broadsides and many group studies of personnel and James himself - most are annotated to the reverse. Record of service, leave forms, cuttings and correspondence etc. are included all contained within a signal register cover.
Royal Oak was famously torpedoed by U47 at Scapa Flow in 1939 losing over 800 of her compliment.
Interesting grouping that would reward further research.
