WW1 KIA AND MID PAIR. WAR AND VICTORY. PERIOD FRAMED. ENGINEER LIEUTENANT ON 'Q' SHIP HMS PAXTON.

A very nice, period framed pair of WW1 medals, consisting of the WAR and VICTORY medal. Center is framed with the Admiralty certificate for his MENTIONED IN DISPATCHES. Below that the original oakleaf spray is mounted on the certificate. The medals and certificate were awarded to ENGINEER LIEUTENANT GEORGE PRESCOTT. He is a MID and KIA. Was killer aboard the HMS PAXTON on 20th May 1917. HMS PAXTON was a 'Q' ship escorting convoys. The PAXTON engaged a U-boat the U-46, but it escaped. Unfortunately to return and torpedo the PAXTON. Most of the crew perished, but a few, including the Captain Cdr. Hewett were saved and taken prisoner by the Germans. A very interesting pair, untouched since the war. I imagine there would be a great deal more research to be done on the Lieutenant, the ship and U-46. A super piece of history.
