Chindit shoulder patch.
Embroidered example of the badge worn by the 77th Indian Brigade and later the 3rd Indian Division - The Chindits. Formed by Orde Wingate in 1942 and fought extensively throughout Burma, often behind Japanese lines.
The name Chindits is a corruption of the word ' Chinthe ' which is the lion-headed pagoda guardian seen throughout Burma and represented by the patch.
This wire thread example is in heavily used condition with clear evidence of having been removed from a uniform but remains a classic example of the iconic badge, priced to reflect condition
