SS Concentration Camp Staff Wehrpass.
An example of the banality of evil shown in a Wehrpass of SS Rottenfuhrer Franz Wolf. Wolf, born in 1903 served initially in a Landeschutz battalion then transport with prior service on the home front and then Poland in the period 1942-44. On 30/09/44 he was promoted to Rottenfuhrer and joined the SS Guard at Sachsenhausen ( SS Totenkopf-Wachbattalion Sachsenhausen ). He apparently attended an Abwehr run course on espionage and sabotage. It would appear that he was captured by the Russians with his name written in Russian both on the front cover and page 1.
Sachsenhausen was located 35km north of Berlin. Built in July 1936 by the SS as a model concentration camp and the central inspection office for all Nazi camps. Over 200,000 prisoners (including political opponents, Jews, Sinti, Roma, homosexuals, forced laborers, and Soviet POWs) were interned there. Evacuated via death march on April 21, 1945; Soviet and Polish forces liberated the camp a day later.
