WW2 U.S. Cattaraugus 225Q Quartermaster knife and Japanese souvenir grouping.
An appealing US WW2 Pacific souvenir grouping. Unfortunately anonymous but with original owner's explanatory labels attached. Grouping includes a Cattaraugus 225Q Quartermaster knife with a personalised leather sheaf featuring the names ' Bob ' and ' Elmira ' framing a woman's portrait. Attached label indicates that this knife was purchased in May 1944 on the troop ship Gen.John H.Pope. The 225Q, officially a ' Quartermaster Knife ' but universally known as the ' Commando ' or ' Devil's Knife ' it served as a heavy-duty fighting and utility blade for all branches of the US military.
Two small printed cotton Japanese flags accompany the group, one ' rising sun ' and one ' meatball ' along with a b/w photograph of two Japanese soldiers and what appears to be a Japanese voltmeter. Finishing the group is a set of ' cats eyes ' shells made into a necklace. The attached label indicates these were found on Noemfoor Island New Guinea in September 1944.
This grouping was acquired from a deceased collector's estate and was kept together in the collection which consisted of a large number of US wartime groupings. Unfortunately there was nothing specific to link these items to a particular group so unfortunately remains anonymous. Good original group never the less.
