Reconnaissance Corps casualty grouping to 10603052 L/Cpl.Harry Parkes 1st Regt. Recce Corps. Parkes was killed on 01/01/45 in the arduous fighting undertaken by the unit after the breakthrough of the Gothic Line. The 1st Recce fought as unmounted infantry in the push into the foothills of the northern Appenines and endured dreadful weather conditions and hard fighting for a protracted period with the unit being withdrawn for a long period of rest shortly after Parkes' death.
Group consists of official paperwork concerning a bout of illness and then the declaration of ' missing in action ' subsequent official and BRCS confirm his death with postwar correspondence from CWGC giving a location and photograph of the grave. Accompanied by various in uniform photographs and his boxed ( lid missing ) medals with accompanying named casualty slip. As with all casualty groups, a poignant reminder of the personal cost of conflict.
