23rd (1st Sportsman's) Bn. Royal Fusiliers Shoulder Title

One-piece, die-struck brass shoulder title for use by members of the 23rd ( 1st Sportsman's ) Bn. Royal Fusiliers.
Recruited at the Hotel Cecil in London by Mrs E. Cunliffe-Owen, with a special War Office dispensation to form a unit from men up to the age of 45, who were then over the formal enlistment age, but who were fit and hard because they were sportsmen. Formed in 1914 the battalion was joined by a second the 24th and were active across the Western front. In good condition complete with both lugs.
