WW1 1914-15 Star Lt.Cmdr.L.R.Venn RN
WW1 1914-15 Star named to ' LT.COMMR.LR.VENN R.N. ' Venn joined the Royal Navy in September 1897 becoming a Sub-Lt. in 1902 and then rising to the rank of Lt.Cmdr. in 1912. He was serving aboard HMS Cochrane, a Warrior-class armoured cruiser,at the Battle of Jutland. His records, some copies of which accompany the medal are quite damning saying ' he lacks initiative for an officer of his seniority ' and that ' he failed hopelessly ' in later examinations which were ascribed to ' interests on shore ' which is an allusion to a relationship which brought about his resignation from the service in 1923. In patinated and slightly grubby condition and offers scope for further research.
