AN ORIGINAL BRITISH ‘WAR BONDS’ FLAG.
I purchased this in a lot of other WW2 and WW1 items and could not figure out what it was! Now I know! This is a beautifully made ‘war bonds’ flag and would have been flown on any major building that sold them. Whist very prevalent firing WW1 they were also sold during WW2 by the Government go raise money for the war effort. A bond was issued in exchange for money and the bonds had a fixed higher redemption value or attracted a good rate of interest. This is a red cotton hessian flag in near mint condition. Has hoist rope and the reinforced edge pocket. The individual letters thst make up the word BONDS are individually machined onto the background but the area to the back of the letters is cut out, so the light shines through the letters.
