WW1 Jambiya Sweetheart badge - Sherwood Rangers.

Ornate silver sweetheart badge in the form of an Arab Jambiya etched to one side of the blade: ' Sherwood Rangers ' and to the other side ' Haifa 23.9.18 ' and ' S.R.' to the handle reverse. These are references to one of the last cavalry charges in modern military history, when Indian and British troops captured the Israeli city of Haifa from the Ottoman Army. The Sherwood Rangers joined the Jodhpur Lancers and the Mysore Lancers in a decisive charge against the slopes of Mount Carmel which were well defended by Austrian gun emplacements and artillery. Attractive item in good, used condition.
