K98 COMBAT BAYONET WITH ORIGINAL FROG.(with ‘as found’ K98 included )
Part of the items sent to me this week. Not seen light of day since 1979, this K98 bayonet has the Bakelite grips. The nice black leather frog has always been on the bayonet and is the type with a cross-strap. All these items were kept in an outside shed and have suffered some from moisture etc. This bayonet is not too bad and with some effort would certainly clean up, but I have decided to leave that to the next owner. Blade still has blued surfaces and is marked F.Herder and Sonn. Numbered 3849. It is accompanied with the other K98 bayonet which is in as found and near relic condition. Heavily rusted overall, looks like it was field excavated, but probably just kept somewhere very damp. Blade slightly bent and is marked WKC.
An interesting find and all of the items perhaps should be kept together.
