WW1 patt. British Naval rating's cap bearing the cap tally ' H.M.MINESWEEPERS.'. Wool body with canvas top and cotton adjustable liner to the interior. Cap tally is the type adopted by the Admiralty during the war for security where ships were only identified by the division they were in. This example is typical being wire on silk with small lettering and full stops. Canvas top has been whitened and is now solid with an ' as worn ' look with some moth damage to the wool body. Interior showing signs of wear with owner's details inked to side.
