WW2 Japanese ' Senninbari ' Good Luck Belt.
Cotton Japanese Senninbari or one thousand stitch belt. The belt was worn around the waist under the shirt or uniform as a good luck charm. The symbolic 1000 stitches are hand-stitched with the symbolic power being enhanced by the stitching of a coin to the centre. In this example the material is encased in a red cover with attached ties with a coin stitched above the hand written characters ' Buun Chokyu '. Loosely translated into English, Buun Chokyu means "May your military fortunes be long lasting." Good, used condition with light staining and marking. Unusual variation.
